Who I Am

Hi, I’m Jeff. Based in Teton Valley, Idaho, just over the pass from Jackson Hole. This blog is where I share projects, thoughts, and the occasional deep dive into whatever I’m curious about.

Professionally I marry business acumen with technical ability, which means I can define the most pressing problems with a company, and find (or build) the right solution. Thanks to AI, this can be done faster and cheaper then ever before.

I was writing code before AI made it cool, and now I get to use it on everything. I’ve been CFO and CPO at venture-backed companies, I’ve shipped real ML systems into production, and I’m back in school at UT Austin doing their AI and machine learning program because I want to go even deeper. I love business, finance, and technology like most people like their favorite sports team.

Two ventures sit alongside this work. I started GuideRail in late 2024 with my favorite human (my pops) to formalize the advisory practice, blending his decades of CFO experience with my operator-builder side. And I founded Rali in 2025 to bring real outdoor racing to the hardware people already own. We’re at seed, aiming for a formal launch in 2026.

I also write a lot about the outdoor industry, which has been a lifelong passion and something I plan to stay involved with for decades. Mountain biking especially. And I’m unabashedly a nerd for all things computer science, which is part of why I’m back in school.
